Guy McLendon Joins Candidates Forum

Houston, Texas (Oct 22, 2002) – Guy McLendon, Candidate (L) for United States Representative, Texas District 25, joined a candidate forum together with his three opponents - (1) Republican Tom Reiser, an Insurance Executive, (2)  Democrat Chris Bell, a Lawyer and City Politician and (3) Green Party George Reiter, a UH Professor of Physics.

OPENING STATEMENT:

Hello, I'm Guy McLendon, Candidate for US Rep

As a working engineer, my job is to solve problems – to develop real solutions

I've done it in industry; so now, let me tackle the challenges that face our nation.

Let me take ethics and common sense to Washington.

Consider: Today, the federal government is Running Amuck.

I Oppose Unilateral Action against Iraq.  The more America spends on Policing the World, the less secure we become Here at Home.

Let's Stop government from Squandering our Lives and our Money.

Let's Shift Power from Federal back to State and Local control.

Let's Prosecute Serious Crimes Committed by Executives with No Less Vigor than, Lesser Crimes such as Shoplifting

Here's a Good news / Bad news story

The good news is that this Constitution was designed to Limit Government

The bad news is this:  the Constitution was Gutted by Faulty Re-Definition of a few Key Words.

Politicians and Judges Swear an Oath on the Bible to Protect our Constitution, but Instead, they Routinely Violate it.

About half are Lawyers, so they should Know Better.

The Constitution is a Contract between Americans, the Owners of this nation, and Public Servants who we hire to operate the government.

Let me explain how your typical Congressman will violate his oath of office.

"We the People" have granted certain powers to Congress as listed in Article 1, Section 8

These servants knowingly vote for laws that have no constitutional authorization because they feel it's the Supreme Court's job to strike down bad legislation.

They figure, "It's not my job !"

If a common soldier walks off his post, he gets court martialed.

This dereliction of duty by Congress is much worse than going AWOL.

Consistently voting for un-Constitutional laws is unlawful, and is a breach of contact.

<Oct 22, 2002:  Time ran out here>

Your typical congressman should be fired.

Detailed plans are on my website at mclendon.net

Thank you very much

CONCLUDING REMARKS:

A typical politician puts his own Self-interest, and his Political Party, above the interests of "We the People" – the owners of this nation.

Some Politicians here Tonight are Typical is this respect.  I am not.

When I'm elected, my Mission is to pass on to America's Youth a Peaceful nation that is both Prosperous and Free.

The Constitution is the Tool that will Let me Get this Job Done

Together, we can win this race.  History shows that, usually

30% of voters are with the Democrat

30% will vote Republican

That leaves 40% who may vote for Freedom and Real Reform

Consider this:  do you want representative government?

According to the Department of Labor, there's over 4 times as many engineers in society as lawyers.  In Congress, there are 41 lawyers for every engineer.

Ask yourself:  is that really representative government?

But, Enough of all that Mushy Stuff!

Here's just two items in my plan to transform government.

First, to shift power from Federal to State government, repeal the 16th amendment - that started the Federal Income Tax

Replace it with a national consumption tax, or Fairtax.

The design would ease the burden for low income folks through exceptions

As a replacement, Fairtax would be less intrusive.  Citizens would no longer fear harassment from the IRS police.

Since states would collect it, the federal government could no longer blackmail the states with threats to withhold federal funding.

Second.  Let's talk about fairness, and not being hypocritical

Public servants should obey the same laws that apply to regular citizens.

This applies to sexual harassment, polluting the environment and financial accountability.

Did you know the Constitution specially requires good accounting?

Our public servants demand that corporations implement honest accounting practices.

Why should we expect any less from our government?

Thank you for your time tonight.

After our debate tonight, I challenge my opponents to join me in signing the Liberty Pledge.  Copies are available on the table outside.

Detailed plans are on my website @ mclendon.net

Thank you and good night.
